Legal and regulatory
Trust Account Disclosure
How tenant deposits are represented and controlled in Northstar.
1. Separate trust records
Northstar represents tenant deposits as liabilities matched to designated trust cash. Trust funds should remain separate from operating funds and be held by the customer or its regulated financial institution according to applicable law.
2. Deposit protection
Double-entry ledger records, approvals, immutable audit events, reconciliation, receipts, and refund controls help the organization account for each deposit. Northstar is not a bank and does not itself provide deposit insurance.
3. Interest
Interest depends on the province, tenancy, dates, and current prescribed rate. Northstar shows configured calculations for review; the property manager remains responsible for confirming and paying legally required interest.
4. Oversight and disputes
Provincial tenancy law and the customer’s trust-account obligations govern. Tenants should raise discrepancies with the property manager and may use the applicable tenancy tribunal or regulator if unresolved.
